A city rich in history
Last stop for European sailors before Cape Saint-Vincent and then the unknown of the Atlantic, this city is marked by the history of navigation. It has long welcomed and sheltered ships and sailors who went on or returned on expeditions. However, its fame comes essentially from the Sagres sailing school, founded by the renowned explorer Henry the Navigator.
There is a multitude of city monuments: the lighthouse of Ponta de Sagres, São Vincente, the church of Santa Maria and above all the city's Fortress, a military construction intended for the strategic protection of the site.
Lovers of nature, wild animals or history, the city of Sagres is the ideal destination for your holidays in the Algarve.
