Algarve, an ideal region for wine making

Algarve, an ideal region for wine making

For a long time dominated by the cultivation of citrus fruits and livestock farming, agriculture in the Algarve has recently been modernised in favour of vineyards. The Silves region is a perfect example of this change. This region, which was previously a minority in wine production but with mass production, has in recent years welcomed a new generation of producers who are totally opposed to the image of the Algarve wine of yesteryear and who develop wines of very high quality. Indeed, there are nowadays 2000 vineyards in the region and about thirty producers, the majority of which settled in the 2000s. The Algarve has the ideal climate for wine growing thanks to its 300 days of sunshine per year, which also makes it a perfect destination for holidays with family or friends. In particular, wine tourism has been widely developed in the region where people from all over the world come to discover and taste Algarve wine where its history mixes with that of Portuguese culture and traditions.  The diversity of the soil, which is both rocky and sandy, makes the land very fertile and allows excellent vine growth for quality wines. Discover our selection of vineyards below for your next stay in the Algarve and discover the secrets of the region's wine.
