What makes the Algarve special?

  • The weather: The geographic location of the Algarve means that it is blessed with sun nearly every day of the year. In the winter, it rarely goes below 10 degrees which is lovely as winter can sometimes be hard to endure. In the summer, winds from the Atlantic Ocean cool down the air which is delightful on a hot day.

  • The gastronomy: With such a prominent fishing industry, the Algarve’s cuisine majorly revolves around fresh fish and seafood. Travellers in the Algarve will be able to go to a restaurant which serves catches of the day flavoured with delicious Mediterranean spices and herbs to make dishes unique. Bacalhau, which is salted cod, is a must-try when in the Algarve and will leave you wanting more!

  • The caves: Caves are usually the first thing which spring to one’s mind when thinking of the Algarve. The most renowned ones, Benagil Caves and Arcos de Marinha are much more than a part of the scenery, they are the Algarve. To visit them, one usually needs to take a boat or kayak and then swim a little bit to reach the actual cave, a wonderful adventure to do with family or friends.

  • The Golf Courses: With around 35 golf courses in the region, half of which are ranked amongst the top Portuguese golf clubs, the Algarve is now considered one of the best destinations for a golf holiday in Europe. This is primarily due to the ideal weather and the mild breeze blowing around the region which provides optimal conditions for a 9 or 18 hole game with friends or family.

  • Reasonable prices: The fact that it is one of the cheapest countries in Western Europe but provides a better quality if life and same attractions to other popular European countries is part of Portugal’s appeal. When it comes to accommodation, finding a luxurious and budget-friendly villa is simple with Villanovo, have a look on our website!

  • Surfing: Portugal having been voted one of the best surf destinations in the world, the Algarve has become over the years, a surfer’s paradise. With trade winds from the Atlantic, the swells are ideal for beginners to learn how to surf with the help of the numerous surfing schools in the area or for experts to perfect their skills. Villanovo recommends Sagres or the north of the Algarve for a quieter coastline.
