Our selection of the most beautiful villages in Algarve

Monchique

As you may have already discovered in our previous article, Monchique is a true jewel of Portuguese heritage. This small village, which has managed to preserve its authenticity and traditional crafts such as cork and straw work, it also has many other surprises beyond its charming town centre. Hikes with breathtaking views await you as well as the discovery of the Monchique thermal baths where the water is known throughout the country for its healing properties.

Alcoutim

If this village has caught our attention it is not for any particular criterion but for the diversity of things to see and do in Alcoutim! Indeed, this small town is nestled on a hill and very close to Spain, which is only on the other side of the river. The medieval castle of Alcoutim offers a magnificent view of the Spanish village of Sanlucar de Guadiana. At the same time, the heights of the village are perfect for hiking while the historic village takes us back to the past of smuggling which was one of the main activities of the village.

Odeceixe

Odeceixe is a little paradise for surfers. This small village of barely a thousand inhabitants will rest you from the hustle and bustle of the big cities while offering you sun, charming architecture as well as fine sand. The few lucky visitors who have visited Odeceixe appreciate it for its tranquillity, its small houses lined up but also its lighthouse located on the heights from where you can admire the river flowing into the sea. You will undoubtedly enjoy spending the day there between typical discoveries and relaxing on the beach

Olhão

This charming fishing village has preserved all its soul of the past. Whether it is the atmosphere of the village, the local dwellings or its unmissable fresh produce market, you will not be disappointed. The food market organized both in two separate buildings and at the same time in the open air makes us travel through its delicious smells. Olhão also has the advantage of being located very close to the Ria Formosa Natural Park, so you can kill two birds with one stone!

Estoi

This cosy little village belonging to the municipality of Faro is a must-see! It presents one of the most beautiful wonders of the Algarve: the Estoi Palace. This magnificent monument in shades of blue and pink, now converted into a guest house, is an added value to this village whose charm is already undeniable. You will also discover Roman ruins as well as sumptuous gardens and a neo-classical church. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere of this town is sure to seduce you.
